Halloween is by far
one of my favorite holidays, if not my most well liked time of year. Because of my affection for all things creepy and spooky (yet cute), I start my planning and decorating early- around the first of September. However, no Fall Season or Halloween holiday would be complete without including my dogs in all the festivities. Dogs love tricks and treats too!
Halloween Garden Dog Flags
I like to show my love of dogs and Halloween to the whole world (well, at least to my neighbors)! Every year, I display the most amazing Halloween Garden Dog Flags. These flags have adorable dogs with a Halloween theme depicted on them. I always get tons of compliments from neighbors and passersby on my flags and people are always asking where I get them, since they are so charming and unique. I tell them, “Upscale Pup” of course.

One year, we created our very own eerie outdoor graveyard (see pictures below), complete with tombstones, scary skeletons, a fog machine, sound effects, and creepy ghosts hanging overhead. This outdoor decor made the perfect scene for taking pictures of our dogs in their Halloween costumes. The photos turned out so cute that we used them for our Halloween cards and party invitations!
Halloween Dog Costume Contests
During each fall season, I have a wonderful time picking out the Halloween costumes that my three dogs will wear. I choose carefully, since they will most likely be competing in our local dog Halloween costume contests.
The more unique the costume is, the more likely you will win! Of course, some tried and true costumes just look so funny and adorable on your dog, such as when our Daisy became a little pirate. Daisy won our local Halloween costume contest with this darling Pirate Costume...

Unique Dog Costumes
Have fun turning your pup into a Wicked Witch, a Bumblebee, Batdog, a Fairy Princess, Ladybug, a festive Jester, a sweet Bunny Rabbit, a spooky Skeleton, a creepy Spider, a cute Mouse, and even a funny Crocodile!

Measure you pup well and ensure that their costume fits well and they are comfortable.

One way to get into the Halloween Spirit with your dogs is to throw a Halloween theme party for them. Invite all of your well-behaved canine neighbors. This is the time to be creative and have some fun!

Find or make invitations that coordinate with your décor and overall theme of your party. Using dogs dressed as devils and skeletons, paw prints, dog bones, etc. are a wonderful way to convey the spooky Halloween feel to your invites.
Choose A Party Location
If your party will mostly include small dogs, a large room in your house is probably the best venue. For larger dogs, perhaps your backyard (if it is securely fenced) is the better choice. Whatever location you choose, be sure to adorn it with Halloween decorations and whenever possible, mix in dog theme décor.
For my party’s culinary delights, I like to serve fun Halloween theme dog cookies and cakes. Here at Upscale Pup, we offer a delicious Halloween Theme dog cookie assortment that would be just perfect for your soirée.

For variety, I also like to make dog cakes and cookies from recipes that I find in dog-friendly recipe books. There are many books that even include recipes on how to make holiday theme cookies and cakes that are dog safe, completely edible, and even quite healthy for your pup. Also, if you don’t have the time to make party refreshments yourself, quite a number of dog bakeries now offer holiday theme cookies and cakes that you can purchase in advance of your party, either locally or on the Internet.
are also an essential element to your party. Take Cheese Flavor Buddy Bit Dog Treats and wrap them in Halloween theme cello bags, tie them with black and orange curly ribbons. These cute little sacks would also make fun party favors for your celebration. Be sure to include food for all of your human guests as well. There are hundreds of Halloween recipe books, offering fabulous party food suggestions, or purchase items from your local (human) bakery.

Perfect for Halloween Pooch Party Favors
Be sure to assign someone who isn’t dog handling to be the official picture
taker at your party. Use a digital camera that has lots of memory, so
that tons of fun photos can be taken. After your party, you can email the
photos to all of your guests, making for not only wonderful memories, but
great party souvenirs as well. Be sure to email us photos from your
party, as we would love to include them in our Pup
Stars Photo Album
Party Entertainment and Activities
Be sure to plan for both human and dog entertainment. Purchase a scary Halloween Music CD, which features all your favorite spooky tunes and play it on your stereo for the duration of the party. Nothing creates an atmosphere more than music!
Ideas for fun dog activities include having a costume contest, complete with fun prizes for first, second, and third place winners. Host a trick contest, where the doggie that performs the cutest, most unique or funniest trick wins a prize. Prizes can include Halloween theme dog toys, sweet little Dog Halloween Tee Shirts, or a bag of yummy dog treats. Be sure to let the dogs enjoy some regular playtime as well.
Favors are such a fun and creative way to thank your guests for coming to your party and to have a little token of remembrance. Our Halloween theme dog toys, such as our Halloween Pumpkin Hide-A-Toy, our Fraidy Cat Halloween Dog Toys, or Spooky Halloween Tennis Ball Toys, each presented in a little Halloween theme gift bag and tied with black and orange curly ribbon make an ideal favor, as they are something your guests can enjoy for a long time after they go home.
Every time your partygoer's dog plays with the festive toys, you and your fun Halloween pooch party will surely be remembered fondly!
