I’m sure we’ve all heard that dogs and chocolate are not a good mix. This is true, but why?
Chocolate is made from Cocoa beans, which contain both caffeine and Theobromine, which offer a real danger to our furry friends. Theobromine is metabolized more slowly in canines. In humans, the effects are gone in about 20 – 40 minutes. In dogs, the effects are still in the system after 17 hours. Actually, dark chocolate and baker’s chocolate are the worst. Milk chocolate and white chocolate, although still not recommended, present less risk.

Small amounts can produce vomiting and diarrhea. Larger amounts can result in hyperactivity, tremors, high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, seizures, respiratory failure and even cardiac arrest.

If you suspect your pup has gotten into your hidden stash, I would recommend a trip to the vets. This is not something that can easily or harmlessly pass.

Several dog bakeries are available now, which offer safe and healthy treats for your pup.

Dog Clothes Are Fun and Practical

by Admin on June 3, 2013

There are many people to whom their dog is much more than just an animal. The dogs are actually a part of their family. The people who believe this about their dog will often do many things to pamper their dog. Trips to the spa and special grooming are a common thing for the owners to get for their dogs. The owners of some dogs treat their pets like they are one of their children and will spare no expense to make them happy.
Dog clothes are one of the ways that they will spoil their dog. There may sometimes be practical reasons for some dogs to wear clothes. Special boots that protect the dog’s paws can help some dogs who work in hazardous situations. Police dogs will wear vests that can protect them from being harmed with a weapon. While there are some practical clothes that dogs can wear, most of the outfits that owners choose re for style.
The owner can choose from many different types of outfits that are specifically made to fit dogs. It is important to make sure that you get an outfit that is made for the size dog that you have. Other than that there are very few limits on what type of clothes you can choose for your dog.
Some of the most popular clothes that people get for their dogs are uniforms that represent their favorite sports team. If the owner is going to wear a jersey and a hat when their favorite team is playing than their dog should have an outfit that matches as well. The professional teams have recognized this need and have licensed many different lines of clothes for dogs. Many dog owners like to dress their dogs in outfits that match what they are wearing. It might be a team uniform or it might be something else. These types of dog clothes can be found in many stores or at online retailers or they can be specially made for the owners of the dog.
It is no longer unusual to see a dog out with its owner wearing an outfit that was made to fit them. There is no reason to look and wonder why the owner thinks the dog is enjoying this. It is not cruel to put a dog into clothes when you take them out. It is making a fashion statement. As long as the dog does not try to rip the clothes off of their back, the owner can dress them however they want.

Designer Collars for your Upscale Pup

by Admin on March 24, 2013

reecie diamond collar
An animal can be your best friend. This is sometimes said about dogs in relation to man. It never hurts to buy something special for your favorite pet and designer dog collars are just that. A designer dog collar is a dog collar which is made usually by hand by one individual. The collar may have a signature of the designer’s skill or style. This is one of the best ways to have your animal stand out in a crowd of their own kind. It is your favorite animal more than likely, so why not dress him up some. People walk around every day with what they call their ‘bling’ so why can’t your dog also have their own bling?
One of the amazing things about designer dog collars is you can have them custom made. A designer can take your information and for a premium fee craft a collar that is unique and special, all its own. Imagine a dog collar which separates your dog from all others. These designer collars are also well priced. They are most affordable starting anywhere from eighteen dollars and going as high as just under one hundred dollars. These designer collars can be made in themes, colors and just about anything which can suit you and your dog’s fancy.
Sometimes people enter their animal into dog show competition against other animals. These shows are all based on breed, looks and pedigree. Sometimes a nice flashy collar can make all the difference between two of the same animals. A designer dog collar is the gift to man’s best friend which will always keep giving back. You can have your name and address placed on the collar as well if the animal has a habit of getting loose and running away. Every year almost one thousand dogs go missing because of lack of collars to show their home and address. With a designer collar you not only have the information listed but also an individual statement which can be used to identify your dog in the future.
Our pets do so much for us that we cannot afford to not give them something as fantastic as a designer dog collar. Designer dog collars are just a perfect way of saying you love your dog, so why not take a look at what some designers have to offer in this new and exciting line of doggy fashion.

Cool Dog Clothes for Boys

by Admin on March 9, 2013

What young male does not like to appear handsome? What older male does not like to look young, virile and dashing? Humans and dogs alike want to be the best dressed on the block, or in the park. Finding cool dog clothes for boy dogs is not difficult; you need not even look far and wide. You can assure your boy dog is fit for an afternoon in the park or an evening on the town.
Whatever your dog’s life style or hobbies there are clothes to show he is fashion trendy. We have all seen dogs riding with their owner on the back of the motorcycle. The owner is wearing his leather gear; there is no reason the companion cannot ride in style also. Nothing will say biker dog faster than a biker jacket with heavy duty nail heads, and an embroidered eagle patch. On the other hand, the professional dog may prefer to wear a cotton shirt or Dublin Knit sweater. No one would ever doubt the importance of a pooch when they dress to impress.
The possibilities are endless; finding cool dog clothes for boy dogs is simple once you know what the attire is for the function at hand. Are you going to the game? Maybe an NCAA jersey of your favorite collegiate school is just what the veterinarian ordered. If your canine is a professional athlete, he may prefer an NFL tee shirt instead, you only need to determine which his favorite team is. These t-shirts are available in sizes to fit your defensive lineman bulldog, or your halfback terrier.
Getting married? Who is better suited to be the best man or ring bearer, your two-legged best friend, or four-legged companion? The correct answer is whichever you prefer. Do not be afraid to select the four-legged best friend just because you cannot find formal attire which is wedding suitable. The discriminating shopper can find a formal t-shirt for the ring bearer, with a ribbon on the back to secure the rings. Perhaps a tuxedo scarf set is just the perfect finishing touch for when the two of you say I do to Mr. or Mrs. Right.
Whatever the occasion, you will have no trouble finding cool dog clothes for your boy dog. A dog day on the water should never include a dog without sailing attire. Whether it be polo shirts or nautical wear, suitable preppy watercraft clothing is available.
Do not leave your friend at home because they have nothing to wear. Shop til you drop and have your four-legged companion be dressed as well as you, no matter what the occasion.

Classy Travel Accessories for Dogs

by Admin on February 24, 2013

It is not a secret all dogs love “to go”. It is one of the first phrases they learn, and do they ever learn it well. Nothing makes the average dog happier than riding in the car with his/her human companions. Dogs dislike being left at home. They are more than glad to show you how unhappy by getting into trash receptacles, tearing up pillows, and pulling dirty clothes into the living room during your absence. The best way to avoid these little temper tantrums is to take your best friend with. There are a many options of travel accessories for dogs available.
You would not dare take a child or grandchild for a car ride without placing them in a size appropriate car seat or booster. Why is your four legged child any different? For the safety of the pampered pooch, and other occupants, a car seat is essential. Car seats or booster seats are available in a multitude of styles, sizes, and adaptability. For example, if your buddy likes to ride in the front seat next to you, but the console is in the way; consider purchasing a console pet seat. Granted, this is only for the very small breeds or puppy, but it will keep your nervous Nellie close by to reduce anxiety. These car seats are so cozy due to the lamb’s wool interior and quilted exterior you will want to sit there yourself.
When you get to your destination, no four-legged friend wants to stay in the car while you play outside the car. You and your pet will want to stay together to see the sights, and shop the stores. There are many options of pet carriers and strollers available on the market. Depending upon the size of the dog, and your physical capacities, you may want a purse style dog carrier, or possibly a pet stroller. If your outing includes some time at the home of another, or at an outside venue, it may be wise to bring along a hiding or napping place. Options are endless, maybe a pup tent is just right to keep your dog in view yet secure in an enclosed container.
Persnickety pet owners will also want to include in their pet travel bag, a portable food and water bowl, some toys, and a favorite blanket or pillow to sooth the excited pooch’s nerves. Consider packing the doggie travel bag, like you would a baby’s diaper bag. Never forget a disposable waste bag to pick up after you have visited the nearby fire hydrant.
The options are endless. Your pet should never have to do without the comforts of home when on the go with their human buddies. Styles are extensive, you will have no trouble finding just the right travel accessories for dogs to suit your life style and the life style of your four legged companion.

Heading out the Door

by Admin on January 14, 2013

pink blossom straw tote

It’s so much fun for you and your pup to accompany you on outings! My Chihuahua just loves to head out anywhere! She gets all excited and runs around when she sees her carrier coming out of the closet and ready for use. Reecie prefers a carrier that allows her head out so she can be well attuned to what is happening. Actually, if I put her in a closed carrier, she usually manages to find a way out! Before I know it, I see her little head working itself out of a tiny opening and struggling to get out in the real world! So, I have decided to use an open carrier, which has a leash to keep her securely tucked inside.   The Pink Blossom Straw tote is a favorite of ours!  It is from A Pet’s World and is cute, comfortable and easy to carry!  http://www.upscalepup.com/product.php?productid=17575&cat=0&page=1   When pups are taken out to the public from the time they are young, they are generally very well adjusted friendly pets. I realize this is not always the case, but it’s usually beneficial to start young! So, enjoy those days out. And remember, during the cold months, add a sweater on the pooch so she won’t end up shivering! Happy adventures!

Step ‘N Go! Harness is Really That Easy!

by Admin on January 3, 2013

My 3.8 pound Yorkie really “rules the roost”, and that includes walking on a leash. She is, well, horrible at it. I have been a bit afraid to push the issue, realizing that a Yorkie’s throat area is quite sensitive and can be hurt with much pressure.
I liked the Step ‘N Go Harness when I added it to my boutique in the fall and decided to give it a try. It is really as easy as it sounds. You simply “step” your pup in and “go” for your walk. I loved it, Scarlet loved it and we had the most successful walk! Scarlet was secure in the harness, yet there is no pressure on the throat area. The harness/leash comes in darling colors; pink, black and brown/gold. It is adorned with a silver rhinestone paw print. Really cute. Really easy. And really works!
With summer coming, I encourage you to give it a try.
Happy walking!
